General Notes:
Stewart appears in the 1900 Kingsley Precinct census as age 11 and living with his parents George and Lily McLeod. (FM334a) He was age 21 for the 1910 Kingsley Precinct Census and living with his step-father Archibald Pugh and his mother. (354d) In the February 1920 census, he was single and living in the Mauphin Precinct. (not documented here) His nickname was 'Brick' due to his red hair, according to his step son Jack Russell who says that Stewart homesteaded on Tygh Ridge. He and his mother, Louise, married in the early '50's after the death of his father. The Russell's had lived only about 5 miles away and were good friends. (personal communication) His obituary says he served in WWI. (FM371j) and his grave gives his military number as PFC 4 CO166 Depot Brigade WWI (HM0034j). He died in a Portland hospital Sept 1959 and is buried in the Kingsley (Whitten) Cemetery near his father, George.
