FM198b: After marrying, they made their home on Concession 7 of Kincardine twp., farming. They moved to Desbarats with the family in 1897. He first worked in the bush, then later at the sawmill. After a number of years they bought a bush lot, built a log house, stable, and cleared the land for farming with the help of the older sons. They raised a family of 9 children, including Murdock, who died at 7 months of age. John built another house in the town of Desbarats in 1912.
FM201 In Kincardine, the family attemded the Chalmers Presbyterian Church which in 1990 was the United Church. The family moved to Johnson Twp in 1897 where the Haneys and (unable to read) had already established farm homes. Margaret and the8 youngest children went by train to Desbarats where they were met at the station by granpa Haney and some of his brothers. John Angus and Everet followed by CPR box car with their possessions. This article contains many other tidbits of John Angus's family's life including the information that the Hunter family was very musical. Annie was organist in the Portlock Presbyterian church for many years. FM205b Newspaper clipping from 1980 Hunter reunion: "...in November 1897 moved the family to Desbarats. Already waiting to meet the young family was Mrs. Hunter's family Archibald and Janet Haney and their 5 sons who have settled in Johnson Twp."
