John married Margaret Lucinda HANEY, daughter of Archibald HANEY and Janet BROWN, in 1883 in Kincardine, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. FM198b: After marrying, they made their home on Concession 7 of Kincardine twp., farming. They moved to Desbarats with the family in 1897. He first worked in the bush, then later at the sawmill. After a number of years they bought a bush lot, built a log house, stable, and cleared the land for farming with the help of the older sons. They raised a family of 9 children, including Murdock, who died at 7 months of age. John built another house in the town of Desbarats in 1912.
FM201 In Kincardine, the family attemded the Chalmers Presbyterian Church which in 1990 was the United Church.
The family moved to Johnson Twp in 1897 where the Haneys and (unable to read) had already established farm homes. Margaret and the8 youngest children went by train to Desbarats where they were met at the station by granpa Haney and some of his brothers.
