General Notes:
Mac was born in Kincardine Hospital, the eldest of 3 children. He grew up on the family farm on the 5th Concession. On graduating from high school in Kincardine, Ontario, Mac
became a teacher, graduating from Stratford Normal School in 1938. He then taught at lower 5th Line school in Kincardine Township. Joining the RCAF in 1940, he
served as Navigator in WWII. After 22 trips, he was shot down over the North Sea and taken as POW for 45 months, being released at the end of war. Following the war, Mac attended University of Toronto and became an accountant. He met Susan ("Toots") Westell during these student years,through a ride from Toronto to Kincardine, arranged by both their mothers. After their marriage in 1946, they moved to London, Ontario in 1949, where Mac worked for the Dept. of Revenue, later transferring to St. Catharines. They built a home at 11 Duncan Drive, St. Catharines, and the family lived there for 30 years. Mac and Toots retired to a new home in Kincardine, on the site of his parents former summer cottage, "Blinkbonnie", on Saugeen Street.
