bullet  General Notes:

Richard, born in Tipperary, came to Canada with his parents in 1837. When his father James died in 1842 and after his mother Anne was remarried to John Hodgins in 1846, young Richard appears to have obtained ownership of the family property and provided a home for his younger siblings and his maternal grandmother Catherine Ardell/McArdell (1771-1872). She lived to be 101 years old and was buried at Holy Trinity Church in Lucan.

Moved from Biddulph Twp. to Kincardine Twp. in 1877, and later retired to Kincardine, prior to 1899.
Both Richard and Elizabeth are buried in Kincardine Cemetary, unmarked, in Dagg Plot with sons Robert and Harry.

Participated in the Finian Raids of 1866. He was one of those who helped to build the original Brough's Bridge at London, Ontario. He was prominently identified with the advancement of the Twp of Biddulph and of Middlesex, and was one of the best-known men of Western Ontario. Left Biddulph to reside in Kincardine, where they retired. He had an excellent memory. (from 64th anniversary publication in London Free Press, dated Mar 1912- WR042a)
