JB072a- A 'James Gerrel' appears in theNorth Pickenham Baptism Records in Norfolk England, His parents were John and Mary Anne Gerral. This is believed to be the James Jarrell who married Sarah Burton as Sarah's sister, Matilda, married a Leonard Took also in North Pickenham where the Tooks and Burtons lived.

James Jarrel came to Canada with the Burton family and they settled in Blenheim Twp.

JB084- James (name spelled as Lacorel) married Sara Burton. Samuel, Mary Ann and Hannah Tooke were baptized on Sept 16, 1844 on the same day as their Aunt Sarah Burton married James Jarrel, by Rev. Peter Ker. Witnesses were Robert and Eliza Tooke. Rev. Ker was a Wesleyan Methodist.

He and wife, Sara, and children moved to Kincardine TWP in 1853, from Oxford County, with children Elizabeth, John, Mary and Frances.
Note: in 1861& 1871 Ontario census, Bruce County,Kincardine Twp, James appears as 'James Gerald' : From England, age 48, farmer. (In 1881 spelled as Jarrel, and in 1891 census as Jerald.)
It is believed that James Jarrell had sisters but no brothers - living in England or Canada.
In a letter from Mae Collins Sept. 1963, Mae states that she believed that James had no brothers, but that he did have sisters.

In the family bible of James and Sara Jarrell, the name is spelled with one "l", as "Jarrel". The other letter was added in next generation by John, when John's daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. B.O. Allen) discovered the name "should be spelled with 2 l's"

James and Sara started the Jarrell Family Bible which was published June 8, 1813. It was passed to Elliott in 1902 and it went through a fire in 1929 when Elliott's house burned. It survived with only water spots.
It was given to his daughter Sadie in 1936 and later to Elliott's nephew, Lawrence.

Death certificate the name is spelled as Jarrel, age 75, living lot 17 Conc. 6, a Married farmer, from England, cause of death heart failure, length of illness half hour, no physician present. Religious denomination Methodist, return filed by John Jarrell.
